So you want to be a model…

I recently had a client ask me about modeling photographs for her young daughter, “Can I use a photograph made last year?”

It’s a very competitive market out there. First and foremost, Does your child have the personality to be successful in front of the camera?   Is your child confident about who they are? Are they happy, out going, active, and inquisitive?  Are they engaging and playful?  Do they have a sparkle when they smile?   Some children are so comfortable in their own skin, no matter where they are and what they are doing they are easy to photograph. They have lots of different expressions that bubble out without much prompting.

To answers “Mom’s” first question, you do need recent photographs that portray your child now, not a year ago. I usually like to make 4 or 5 different photographs to create a comp card. Clothing and location changes add interest. Full body, 3/4 and closeup views bring variety to the model card.

One young wanna be model told me that she wants to model because,” You get to play and people pay you for having fun.”  I have to agree that loving what you do and getting paid for it is a great way to live life.
